Western Sydney Airport, run without paper

Heyday Group is one of Australia’s leading Tier 1 electrical contractors. Western Sydney Airport was the biggest project in their 45-year history – on a compliance regime their paper QA could not have carried.

“I don’t think a project of that scale would be manageable without an automated system.”

The job

Large government-funded projects now demand quality documentation at a level paper can’t keep up with. Heyday’s paper QA had served them on smaller work; at airport scale it meant lost documents, rework risk, skilled coordinators buried in admin, and a client without visibility.

“A shift in the last 5 years, particularly with some of the large government-funded projects... they demand high requirements for compliance and quality documentation and submissions.”

What changed

Heyday built a digital QA library so every checklist was in the field, set the project up in CONQA around their own workflow, and had crews capturing and signing off live from site – with the client watching the same record.

“Using CONQA means we can provide live data updates on progress to both internal senior management and our client representative at the click of a button.”

The admin that disappeared

“They’re monitoring what’s going on on site in terms of the completion of the checklist. So they’re not having to go out to site, find the supervisor, find the piece of paper, that then gets scanned, that then gets uploaded onto a server, that then gets put onto a tracker. There’s a physical saving there.”

Since Western Sydney Airport, Heyday has taken CONQA into the ACT and won two more projects at similar scale – the New Shoalhaven and New Shellharbour hospitals.
