Head of Operations

Location: Auckland (Hybrid) | Employment Type: Full-Time

About CONQA

CONQA builds quality assurance software for the construction industry. We're a 30 person team operating across New Zealand and Australia, and we're at an inflection point. The product is working, customers are growing, and the business needs an operator who can build the infrastructure to scale it.

The role

This is a genuine COO role, not a stepping stone, not a "future COO" promise. You'll be the CEO's operating partner: owning execution across the business, driving financial discipline, and building the systems and culture that let CONQA grow without losing its footing.

You'll manage Finance (outsourced), Operations, and PeopleOps with a seat at the leadership table on decisions that shape the company's direction. If you've been the person who quietly made things work, who built the operating rhythm, caught the gaps, drove the follow-through and you're ready to own that formally, this is the role.

What you'll own

Operational Leadership

  • Build and own the operating cadence: meetings, metrics, accountability loops
  • Clarify ownership and decision rights across teams
  • Drive execution on cross-functional priorities: not just talking but unblocking
  • Design and implement scalable processes as headcount and complexity grow

Financial Oversight

  • Manage the outsourced accounting function and own cash viability
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting and performance reporting
  • Prepare board packs and support the CEO in investor communications
  • Strengthen financial controls and compliance as the company scales

GTM & Revenue Operations

  • Improve revenue forecasting and pipeline visibility
  • Align Sales, Marketing, Product and Customer Success on shared metrics
  • Ensure operational readiness ahead of growth initiatives

People & Culture

  • Oversee People Operations: policies, compliance, onboarding, and retention systems
  • Act as a culture carrier: model the behaviours you want to see at scale
  • Partner with team leads on performance, structure and capability

What we're looking for

  • 5-8 years in operations, strategy or a COO-adjacent role, in a startup, scale-up, or fast moving environment
  • A track record of leading cross-functional initiatives: systems, processes, teams
  • Strong execution bias, you close the loop, hold the line, and don't wait to be asked
  • Comfortable owning or managing outsourced finance functions
  • Experience in B2B SaaS is preferred; construction tech is a bonus

You might not have "COO" on your CV yet. That's kind of the point. We're looking for someone ready to grow into the role at pace not someone who's already done it ten times at companies ten times our size.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Equity participation, we want you to have skin in the game
  • Direct access and genuine partnership with the CEO
  • A leadership role in a company where your fingerprints will be visible
  • Most Fridays off with our Friday Wellbeing policy

We're not looking for a perfect CV ,we're looking for the right person. If this role makes you lean forward, apply.

COO roles don't come up often. This one's real, it's yours to shape, and we genuinely welcome applications from anyone who sees themselves in it.
